Andrew | Motorcycle

I had a long time friend approach me about some photos of him with his motorcycle. I had never had the opportunity to take photos of moving vehicles (well, on a professional scale) before, so I was super excited for the chance. He joked that the only photo he had with his bike was a photo someone snapchatted to him, so I guess it’s time for an upgrade, eh?

We started with a drive in Gatineau Park…

Well, there ya have it! So much fun (and now I REALLY need a bike of my own)!!

Eliza & Salman Engagement

I’ve known Eliza for a long time, and it was really nice of her to contact me about shooting an engagement session for her and her fiance Salman. In respect to family wishes we kept everything very family friendly. She really wanted to take photos with beautiful scenery, and we both live so close to the Vimy Bridge (the Earl-Armstrong/Strandherd bridge), which also has a little connection to Chapman Mills Conservatory. Integrating this formal style surrounded with stunning scenery really called for some gorgeous photos of this super adorable couple!

Eliza is adorable because she laughs at everything…
…and Salman is adorable because he laughs when she does!

Salman has great taste in jewellery, doesn’t he??

The blanket (officially referred to as a ‘Ketha’) this ring is on is her grandmother’s family heirloom, and wanted to integrate it into some photos. It’s a traditional way of making quilts, which consists of her grandmother’s old saree’s.

Queen Ravenna | Jessica Rousseau Cosplay

Cosplay photo shoot: Achievement unlocked.

I am so excited because I finally got to shoot the very talented Jessica Rousseau with her Evil Ravenna (The Huntsman: Winter’s War). Her dress and OH MY GOD that cape was dripping in beautiful details and I sincerely hope I did it justice.

Side note: I had a little fun trying my hand at composites with the feature image, haha. Practice makes perfect, but that was more for fun.

Among my favourites, I couldn’t decide which one I liked more… so I had to put in both! haha.

Costume close up features…

I love that I captured both her character (deliciously evil), and also Jessica’s personality. I really wanted that “evil but innocent” photo energy… creating a far more dramatic effect, and a beautiful elegance (just like Charlize Theron!). As a cosplayer, I really wanted to make sure she had lots of images of her costume, details etc. but also the character too! She was a beauty to shoot with, and I hope I have the opportunity again in the future!

Ottawa Comic-Con | May 13-15, 2016

I was finally able to attend an Ottawa Comic-Con… you know, what, 5…6 years later? Better late than never. I also sacrificed a severe amount of sleep to be able to go. I wish I could say it’s because of costume delays, but actually it was because of work. Oh darn those responsibilities. Suffice to say, I had an excellent time helping a couple of friends man their booths *cough* and avoiding the massive crowds where possible.

Little shoutout to Nytro Cosplay  and his friend Spencer (who kept trying to buy things in bottle caps, haha!) in my main photo here…we almost missed each other, but glad they managed to spot me! I also love that we all have different versions of the Pipboy.

I didn’t manage to grab too many photos this year, and primarily because it was so darn busy that I actually wasn’t able able to pull people aside. There were some truly amazing cosplays I saw in person and even in photos that I missed. I was only able to attend Friday and Saturday, but something is better than nothing! Without further adieu, please enjoy!

Neegan and Daryl (The Walking Dead)

My friend Lexa Lefay featured as Cinderella. She didn’t make the costume herself, a friend had made it and exclaimed that she had the excuse to be a princess for a day! Hey, why the heck not!

Simon (Gurren Lagann)

L: Lady Sif (Thor) | M: Kuzco (Emperor’s New Groove) | R: Fleur Delacour (Harry Potter)

L: Fallout Sole Survivor | M: Mad Max | R: Capable & Nux (Mad Max)

Team Fortress 2 … the guy in the baseball outfit jumped in out of nowhere, no idea what series he might be from… haha!

Peekaboo cosplay had created a custom fawn cosplay. I was incredibly intrigued by her lantern… beautifully done! (her cosplays are exquisite!!)

Lana & Archer (Archer). I saw them from afar towards the end of my day, the guys at the booth I was at shouted “LAAAANNNAAA” and apparently that was enough to get their attention (It was pretty funny). I have to say, these two are pretty darn accurate to the show – excellent job!!

We Can Do It - posterized

Lastly, I’ll finish with this – Photographer Stephen Orser did this up for me, which was very kind of him. I love it! 🙂

Ottawa PopExpo | Nov 21-22 2015

This comes only a few months late, figured I should probably post these before it gets forgotten forever, and we wouldn’t want that!

With a very busy weekend in my own life I was only able to make it out to Pop Expo for a matter of a few hours on Saturday. In that time I managed to: see my fellow cosplay friends, buy a cosplay approved sword for my costume, get an impromptu professional shoot, and spill Ketchup literally all over me.

I had worn Matsumoto before, though with some improvements I felt a lot better about it… but I forgot my pink scarf! I was very disappointed about that. Overall, it’s an easy costume to wear and super comfortable. I’m not used to weaponry so that aspect was a little awkward but I’ll get the hang of it eventually!

Original costume designer Anja Takera created such a beautiful dress!

I was honestly super shocked to see a Faith Connor’s floating around, and she was really well done to boot! Mirror’s Edge is one of my favourite games, so this was a very pleasant surprise.

My friend Alex over at Lexa Lafay Cosplay as Connor from Assassin’s Creed!

I was a little unsure about who these two ladies were cosplaying as, but their costumes were very cool!

When I met the Disney villian ladies we were waiting in line for our photoshoots, they were very impressive and the photographer obviously loved them. I also met them again in line for some food… after I had used the Ketchup pump and it splattered all over me and my costume. I warned them about it and we laughed about how they were being extra careful about it so it didn’t happen to them too.

Lastly, I managed to get some of my own photos done, thanks to Droo Photography for a great shoot for Rangiku Matsumoto from Bleach:

Thoughts on the convention overall:

I have to admit I was a little disappointed. After some discussion with friends, apparently having Will Shatner as a special guest had taken away a lot of the budget that should have gone to the vendor’s necessary and standard needs (like backdrops, table clothes and trash cans). On top of which signage was limited, artist alley was hiding (and cold!), and we were not gifted with any goodie-bags. Food selection was limited, but that’s normal for the EY Centre. It was still a good time, but being there for the few hours that I went was probably all that was needed.
